A spiced apple crisp

Ingredients

  • 6 granny smith apples, peeled
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 1/4 cups + 2 tablespoons all purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup old fashioned oats
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 12 tablespoons (1 1/2 stick) butter, chilled and cut into small pieces
  • Vanilla ice cream

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350F
  2. In a large mixing bowl toss together the apples, lemon juice, 1/2 cup granulated sugar, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 2 tbsp flour
  3. Let mixture rest in refrigerator
  4. In a separate mixing bowl mix the remaining 1 1/4 cups flour, oats, 1/2 cup brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt
  5. Work the butter into the mixture until it comes together and large clumps form
  6. Move apple mixture to 2 quart (9x9) greased baking dish
  7. Sprinkle the topping over the fruit
  8. Bake until fruit is bubbling and the topping is crispy and golden brown (about 45 minutes)
  9. Serve with ice cream
